Marblepaw couldn't sleep.
Her sister, Tinpaw, was in the medicine cat den. Although they didn't get on, she was still her sister. It worried her. Marblepaw didn't hate any of her siblings; they just seemed to hate her. Marblepaw was worried by them. It wasn't her fault. Her parents just seemed more fond of her than they did of them, but that was mainly because she hadn't been a troublemaker and they had been.
She had sneaked out from the apprentice den and settled out under the stars. She stared up quietly, tail flicking back and forth. StarClan was up there, watching them, caring for them. The four Clans of old were there two. All of them. Her mother had told her of them. ThunderClan lived like PineClan did; in the forest, hunting birds and mice and squirrels. WindClan ran on flat plains, chasing after rabbits. RiverClan lived by a long, winding river, fishing and swimming. ShadowClan lived in a marsh and sneaked around in the darkness.
Marblepaw wondered why they had had to leave. What had gone so horribly wrong that Emberstar, Whitestar and Thornstar had had to flee? Emberstar had been of RiverClan, Whitestar of ThunderClan and Thornstar of ShadowClan. Why had they gone from four clans to three? Why had no WindClan cat stepped up to lead? Had there been no space?
Marblepaw sighed. Long nights made for weird thoughts. [/justify][/blockquote]

Frostkit knew she was going to get in trouble for this eventually, but she didn’t much care. The fluffy little white kit had been sneaking out of the queen’s den every night for the past week or so and had yet to get caught doing it. She wasn’t stupid; she never stayed out for longer than a few minutes. But there was something about the smell of fresh, night air and the sight of stars twinkling against a velvet sky that captivated Frostkit. She just couldn’t miss it, regardless of whether or not her mother approved of her being out of the den on her own.
But tonight it seemed that she was not totally alone. Just as she was about to quietly exit the den to avoid waking her brother or mother, Frostkit spied another she-cat sitting on her own in the camp. She didn’t recognize this cat, though she didn’t look much older than a kit. Mother was always telling her and Hurricanekit stories about other cats in Stoneclan, but she had neglected to mention this one. Instant distrust ruffled Frostkit’s fur and prompted her to retreat back into her den, but she hesitated. The other cat looked lonely and sad. She felt no desire to comfort the other female, but was curious as to why she would be out there all alone. But what if this cat told on her for being outside of the den at night? In the end, she decided it was worth the risk.
Frostkit padded up to the cat boldly, trying to put on a show of false confidence. It was a skill that she had picked up on quickly, since she had noticed that being bold usually got her what she wanted much faster than beating around the bush. Her multicolored eyes helped with this; the imbalance made her stare all the more demanding. “Whatcha doin’ out here?” Frostkit mewed in her tiny, kitten voice while looking up at the other cat curiously.

Marblepaw was so lost in her thoughts she barely even heard the kit amble over.
"Whatcha doin' out here?"
The tiny voice made the fur on her spine rise up, and Mablepaw's face quickly turned to the cat, or rather, kit, that had disturbed her thoughts. Annoyed at herself for getting scared by a kit, Marblepaw mumbled some nonsense and looked away, letting out a little grumble. "I could ask you the same thing," she replied, scratching behind her ear with her hind leg. "Little kits like you should be asleep, or you might get carried off by a bat or somethin'." Marblepaw said. It wasn't true, but it was what her mother had told her. She'd never heard of a kit being taken by a bat but it seemed scary enough to happen.
Sighing, Marblepaw answered the kit's question. "Jus' thinkin, and stuff, I guess," she meowed, shrugging back and rolling her shoulders. "My sister's in the medicine cat den. She got sick, like all the prey has. I don' really get on with her, but," Marblepaw's blue eyes drifted to Ironcall's den, sighing. "I kinda don't want her to, like... go to StarClan too soon, or... stuff." Marblepaw shrugged again, looking down at the kit. Her eyes were curious; mismatched. "You're Frostkit, ain'tcha?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. "You got your momma's eyes, blue and yellow." Marblepaw let herself smile for once. "That's pretty unique. You should thank StarClan for having such a unique thingy about you."
