The tom's eyes blinked open sleepily, surveying his surroundings. His den, his chosen sleeping place, was a holly bush, hollowed in the middle from years of harsh winter storms. A small break in the leaves allowed him entrance and exit, while the sharp leaves and poisonous berries did their job to ward off most unwanted visitors. The bush itself was large enough to provide a warm, protected niche for the Deputy, although he tended to retreat to the main nest in times of harsh weather.
From the sound of it, a light drizzle had started outside, and he sneezed in surprise when a tiny droplet landed on his snout. He shook his head, slowly rising and stretching, shaking off the tempting hold of sleep. His den was located, advantageously, against the front side of the nest, only a few steps away from the porch. It blended into the rest of the hedges around the twoleg structure, and lent him a reassuring peace of mind. Hollyhock squeezed through the makeshift exit, sniffing as the rain instantly coated him.
His stomach rumbled, but he ignored it, beginning his daily rounds. He circled the koi ponds that dotted the landscape, navigating past the medicine den before looping back and roaming through the micro-mansion that served as the clan's main hub. Eventually, the tom ended up back outside, watching the rain from the shelter of the front porch. The air was crisp, but not cold enough to bother him through his plush fur. The tom sighed, content, and watched the other cats of RoseClan awaken. |

Violetstep had gotten back early from the dawn patrol, her fur now practically glistening with rain droplets and her whiskers felt heavy. Though it was only a light sprinkling at the moment, the clouds betrayed the beginnings of a storm. It was odd how peaceful she could feel on days like this. Why it was always the days that seemed the dreariest that always had her so calm. Maybe it was just the gentle sounds of the raindrops pitter pattering on the ground. Or maybe it was the relaxing scent of the lake and clouds blowing gently through the grounds. There were many reasons for it, she supposed, though it wasn't something that she really needed to take the time to ponder about too greatly.
The tabby she-cat could feel the small pangs of hunger rumbling about in her stomach, though she knew better than to go and eat just yet. She much preferred making sure that the Elders and Queens were brought food before taking something for herself. That or she would go and catch her own fish at the moment, but with so few others up, she didn't quite see what the point of making noise just to fill her hunger. Maybe she should just relax and enjoy the storm.
Pausing as the other few warriors from her patrol seemed to lazily go back to their dens, Violetstep stretched out her paws, clawing at the dirt before lookin gup at the sky. The rain fell down onto her face, making her want to close her eyes. The scent of the wind rustling through her fur was just too delightful. Her mouth opened barely a hairsbredth, allowing the scent to be stronger as she admired the feel of the water falling on her. If the fear of getting sick hadn't started to cross her mind, she probably would have stayed like that until the rest of the clan started to get up.
But of course, she couldn't, and after a few moments, she opened her eyes and started heading for the porch. Her green eyes almost immediately landed on the form of the clans new deputy as she hopped up beside him. Making sure to take a few steps away, she shook off before turning and looking at him. Nervousness started to fill the Warrior as she tried to get words to form. She couldn't seem to even remember what a proper greeting should sound like as her jaw gaped open. Tail twitching, she sat down and pretended like she had nothing to say by lifting her front left paw and giving it a few licks. Finally the words started to form again in her head and she glanced over at Hollyhock. "G-g-good morning, Hollyhock. Did you s-sleep well?"
((bleck, sorry that this is probs a terrible post xD i think i got a little repeatative at one point too but hopefully it'll do. next one'll be better. promise!))

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #f1efe9; width: 450px, bTable] notes pfft it's fine! ♥count 297tags violetstep the tom had just finished grooming away the remnants of the rain when the sounds of the returning patrol party reached his ears. he chuckled as the weary warriors retreated back to their dens, sympathy coloring the sound. it was nice to have a late day, but he could understand their complaints. hollyhock focused in on the only remaining warrior, a she-cat he recognized as violetstep. she was only a moon his younger, if he remembered correctly, and he was dying for someone to talk to that didn't react to his new title.
he watched in interest as she stood in the rain, tail flicking. he personally couldn't stand the rain, but it was always interesting to watch those that enjoyed it... it reminded him of a his mother, inciting a mixture of of painful remembrance and warm comfort. after a few moments, the she-cat headed towards the porch, and hollyhock nodded as she passed, huffing in amusement as she politely rid herself of the collected rainwater. "G-g-good morning, Hollyhock. Did you s-sleep well?"
the tom offered her a soft smile, holding in a chuckle at her antics. "as well as can be expected. it's... strange, being a deputy all of a sudden," he admitted with a grin. "nice, but strange. a bit like becoming a warrior," he added. "like you're suddenly stepping into bigger pawprints."
hollyhock shrugged, scratching at an ear lazily. "still, it's nice to finally have something to do. well, most of the time, anyway." his tail twitched, and he sneezed as a rogue droplet of rain splashed on his face. "at least you can enjoy this weather," he murmured, sneezing again. |

She let out a small yawn, flexing her claws as she let her paw go back to the ground. Unlike the rest of the cats that had been in her patrol, she was far to awake for sleep. But if it wasn't for the fact that it would be impolite to lie to a fellow clan-mate, especially one who had recently been named deputy, she would have told him she was just stopping by to pay some sort of respects and head back to bed. She didn't like the idea of sitting curled up alone in her makeshit den by the rose bushes and lying any cat seemed almost like a taboo to her, she knew she would have to deal with the nervousness building up inside of her. 'This is something I need to get over,' she thought, her claws digging slightly into the hard wood of the porch.
Violetstep dipped her head down, finding it hard to just look at the tom directly. Her eyes continuously darted back towards him, though, goring from watching the rain to watching the smiling cat. She was happy to hear that he had at least slept alright, even if his answer had been a little more than she had expected. Even to her, it seemed humourous, though. It was almost too obvious that the tom was just happy to speak about his new position. She couldn't even begin to imagine what kind of emotions he had to be feeling right now. She knew that he would make a good deputy, though, always trusting her mother's choices. After all, her mother would have plenty of reason to pick the way she did, right? Onyxstar was incredible, smart, and had a level head on her shoulders. So in trusting her mother, she trusted Hollyhock.
That didn't mean it would make it any more easy to talk to him. "You must be re-really exci-cited for your new position," she said in her soft, whisper-like voice. Just the smallest of smiles seeming to show, probably not all that well seen due to her, for the most part, hiding her face. She couldn't help but start chuckling when Hollyhock began to sneeze though. Purrs of amusement filled her and her tail wrapped around the front of her paws, the tip of it twitching every-so-often out of nervous habit. It was hard to keep herself from constantly flexing her claws, though she seemed to be managing quite nicely at the moment.
The she-cat just barely heard his mutters and at the words, she finally lifted her head again, looking at him in curiosity. "D-d-do you not like the r-rain?" she asked. Granted, there probably plenty of cats that did not like it, she had always thought of RoseClan cats to be more tolerant to water. After all, they were the few that actually didn't mind getting their paws wet. But, at the same time, she supposed it made sense. There was quite a difference between wet paws and rain dropping onto your nose.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #f1efe9; width: 450px, bTable] notes sorry for the late reply! UwU;count 274tags violetstep If cats could blush, Hollyhock would be tomato red. He chuckled, licking a paw and rubbing it over his nose in embarrassment. "Sorry, I guess I got a little over-excited, there... I'm still baffled, really. I mean, baffled and flattered, of course," he was quick to clarify. "I'm honored to be a deputy, but I can safely say I didn't expect it."
Another sneeze shook his fluffy, stout form, and his ears and tail twitched. The rain had begun to shift it's falling patterns towards the porch, and he shuffled back a bit when fat, cold raindrops began to hit his feet. He frowned, glaring at the rain as if he could freeze it in place, or evaporate it with the force of his annoyance. His testy expression melted at the sound of Violetstep's amused purrs, and he chuckled, licking his paws clean of the rain's cold residue.
"It's odd, I know. No cat who fishes for food should be bothered by rain, right? I guess it's the mixture of cold, wet, and unpredictable. Reminds me of tiny snakes, in a way," he continued, shrugging. He cast a grin at his companion, tail tapping her own.
"But enough about me. How are you, Violetstep? You know you don't need to keep me company if you're ready to drop," he added, taking note of her earlier yawn. "Morning patrol can be brutal." he knew from experience just how brutal it could be... although now, he supposed, he had a purpose behind his patrols. the duty of keeping the clan safe kept him fairly well motivated. |

Her purrs of amusement softened as she stared off the porch and into the rain. Violetstep couldn't help but feel amused really, not when her new deputy seemed to be fueled with kit-like excitement. It was quite endearing, actually. But she kept her thoughts to herself, trying to focus more on the on-going rain than her own thoughts. It was easier said than done though, often used to escaping inside herself.
The more Hollyhock talked, the more amused she was getting, though she did her best not to show it. Her tail flicked once before resting against the porch and her claws were aching to be flexed, though she did her best to keep them well retracted. 'No scratching at the porch. Be proper and polite, Violetstep, you can do this. Talking to the deputy can't be all that hard,' she told herself as she listened to him. "D-d-don't apologize," she purred. "Any cat in your p-paws would be feeling the s-same way right now." She was a bit thankful that the stutters weren't as bad as usual, doing all she could to try and keep her nerves calmed while she talked to the tom.
The she-cat watched as he sneezed again, doing all she could to repress the purrs that wanted to fill her. 'Don't be rude, don't be rude.' She was, of course, still purring, though not as loudly as before. She felt them grow louder, though, as Hollyhock himself began to chuckle. "Tiny snakes?" She couldn't help but ask, even if her tail twitched at the touch. She hadn't intended on doing it, she supposed it was a mix of nerves, nervousness, and her lack of, to be quite honest, physical contact with any cat really, that made her jumpy at almost any touch.
"Oh, I'm fffine." Well at least it wasn't a stutter was her only thought. "And I'd mu-much rather be accompanying you than sitting in my den 'til the rest of the c-clan gets up," she admitted. That's probably all she would be doing anyway, just sitting there, staring at the rain from inside the small den she had made in the bushes. "I'm really n-not all that tired. T-t-too awake from the rain." Which was true. Partially at least. It also helped that she had gone to sleep early the night before in order to be prime and ready for the possibility of patrol in the morning. "I quite like p-partolling. With no appre-prentice, it gives me a way to h-help," she added quietly, not quite sure he would care. After all, why would he? He had more important things to think about, like his new position.
Violetstep stared thoughtfully at the rain for a moment, it's soothing pitter-patter beating against the house her clan used for dens. It was relaxing to her, the sound almost like a soft lullaby produced by nature itself. Such a marvelous sound. She would rather listen than tlak, always nervous about striking up conversation. She should have taken her chance to leave when she had it. It would have seemed rude in her eyes but it had been a viable chance.
The cold drops falling at her feet made her jump slightly, though as she got used to them, she calmed back down, flexxing her claws at the porch against. "L-looks like the rain won't be letting up anyt-time soon. Do you think it will clear up by moon-rise?"
((this wasn't meant to be so late ^.^;; her muse was a little dry.))
