HOLLYHOCK
ROSECLAN x DEPUTY
[STUBBORN] ● [PROTECTIVE] ● [CAUTIOUS]
General Knowledge
AGE: forty moons
GENDER: tom
BREED: maine coon / japanese bobtail
SEXUALITY: homosexual
REASON FOR NAME:prefix holly is very adaptable, and can thrive in many situations. it can also be both deadly to some and helpful to others. the patterns on his pelt also resemble the thick, jagged lines of the holly leaf.
suffix his legs are thick, stocky and muscular. put together, the hollyhock is also an elegantly rotund and limber flower.
Appearance
Hollyhock's body is close to the ground, with short, muscular legs ideal for stalking and pouncing. Unfortunately, they're also an easy target. He's built like a barrel, with a wide, muscular frame. His fur is extremely long, and requires great care to keep it clean. It does, however, protect him from cold weather and some bites and scratches. His tail is a stub, which tends to make it hard to climb trees and the like.
Hollyhock's fur, a blend of brown and black, allows him to blend into the bark of trees, and he often sticks near them when out and about. He is missing a claw on his back right paw, and his toes on that foot are littered with tiny scars, now covered by fur. Both the scars and missing claw are gifts from his reckless kit-hood. Holly is surprisingly muscular and thin for a cat from RoseClan, and he is constantly moving to try and keep it that way. The tom's eyes are a honey shade, with green and blue ringing his pupil. There are a few spots of brown scattered around his iris, as if someone took a paintbrush and splattered it multiple times.
Personality
Hollyhock can be very cold and distrusting towards those he doesn't know, although he tends to be less wary of fellow RoseClan cats. He rarely opens himself up to others, although she-cats have a better chance of it happening. The tom is, however, extremely loyal to RoseClan, and is very protective of his fellow clan cats, especially kits. He enjoys having something to do, especially if that something helps to better the clan. Thus he's often found asking for a job to do, be it mentoring or gathering medical herbs.
Hollyhock tries to think before he speaks, especially around those older or higher up on the food chain than him. He can, at times, come off as trying too hard because of this. He tries not to hold grudges, but generally fails, and has an extremely hard time forgiving others. After all, he still holds a grudge against his father, and he hasn't seen him in over twenty moons.
Overall, Hollyhock tries his best to protect his clan mates, to prevent any other families from being destroyed.
History
FAMILY:bramblepelt - mother. maine coon. deceased.
koistep - father. japanese bobtail. missing.
irispaw - brother. mix. missing.
Bramblepelt and Koistep, it seemed, had been in a friendly competition from the moment they were born. Their mothers had given birth only a moon apart, and had urged them to play together from birth. The kits never seemed to get along, always trying to one-up the other. They didn't seem like great relationship material, in any case. However, as the two grew older, they realized that out of all the other Clan cats, they were the only ones who understood the other.
It only made sense to become mates. So, the two become a pair, inseparable for the first thirty moons of their courtship. They had a pair of kits - Hollykit and Iriskit, with one stillborn kit along the way. It seemed like the gift of kits would only strengthen their bond, but Koistep grew ever distant, sticking to the outskirts of the Clan's territory and sidestepping any inquiries after his mate and their kits. Thus, Bramblepelt raised the two kits on her own, and rarely saw her mate.
Their relationship continued to fracture as the kits grew, and their competitiveness jumped to the next level - their stunts and dares grew dangerous, even deadly. By the time the kits were Apprentices, the pair frequently attacked each other unannounced, leaving vicious bite and claw marks littering each-others bodies. The familial war seemed to rage on, only growing more fierce with every passing moon. Finally, it reached a head on a cold winter's day, snow dulling the sound of their paw steps. Bramblepelt was out teaching the kits to hunt when she spotted Koistep .
More importantly, she spotted Koistep fighting off a fox. Hesitating, she left her children under the cover of the brush, and reluctantly went to help her mate. Once she reached him, however, the fox had torn into his legs, leaving him practically helpless. Bramblepelt attacked the fox... and died protecting her kits. Koistep barely managed to scramble away, calling to the children to follow him, to leave RoseClan for good.
Irispaw eagerly followed him, having always loved his father, but Hollypaw stayed, watching his father and brother disappear into the snow. He ran to the safety of the inner territory, gathering the attention of everyone he could and leading them to his mother. They were too late - Bramblepelt had bled out long before her son could have saved her.
The experience left Hollypaw without a family, and he grew cold and distrusting, wary of strangers and unwilling to open himself completely to anyone. He did, however, grow extremely protective of fellow RoseClan cats, especially those who knew his mother. He carries her memory with him to this day, and is still searching for his disgraced father and innocent brother.
Just a few moons ago, RoseClan's Deputy, Sharpvoice, stepped down from his position, citing personal reasons. Hollyhock jumped at the chance to work towards protecting the clan on a larger scale, and was promoted to Deputy in his stead. He's still a bit stunned by the sudden granting of his dream, but he carries the title with pride, and adores helping his fellow clan members.
