The tom woke silently, as he always did. His first reaction was to glance to his Denmates to see if they were all breathing. It might have seemed stupid, but he just wanted to make sure he didn't have to call for Opalcloud or Crystalpaw's help.
Once he was sure everyone was alive, He lifted his head further and tasted the air. It seemed sunny enough and he hopped that it would stay so. The worst thing was to take the effort to move out into the sun, only to have it run away after a bit. Luckily, once the day wore on a bit, there were plenty of helpful young'uns who were willing to help him retreat to safety.
It took a good five minutes before he was fully on his feet. His back legs were thin and weak and he couldn't go far without help, but he could at least get to a sunny spot where the rays poked in through the roof of the house. He shambled slowly and steadily, taking every care not to twist something or have a leg go out from under him.
Eventually, he made it to his spot. He flopped down with a sigh and looked around. He had chosen this spot long ago and it was perfect. His back was against a large stone so he could sit up with little effort and see much of what was going on. It allowed him to speak to cats for a few minutes as they passed by without hindering their day. And best of all, it was sunny for hours and he could just bask and stay warm.
He wondered if anyone would come talk to him today.

Violetstep yawned, her jaw gaping open as her eyes closed. In one long, fluid motion, the young warrior reached out, stretching her body out as far as she could make it go. Her rear was up in the air, tail twitching back and forth, as her back arched inward. Her claws flexed a few times, grazing the ground a couple of times with them. Sometimes she wished that she had better things to do during the day, but what with her being set for the evening patrol, she pretty much had most of the day to herself. She could easily go out and try to hunt. But by herself? That would be absurd. What if something bad happened? The snakes were getting so irritable lately. What if one bit her? What if she couldn't make it to Opalcloud in time? What if what if what if? All these questions and worries starting to fill her head as she straightened herself out.
Taking in a few deep breathes, she walked out into the sun light. 'No need to think about that, Violetstep. If you get yourself too worked up, you won't be able to go on your patrol tonight,' she thought to herself, carefully moving over towards the fresh kill pile. It seemed that there was just a couple of fish on it at the moment. Either she had awoken far later than she had meant to or it was earlier than she thought. Glancing up towards the sky, she noted that the sun seemed to be rather high. Not exactly Sunhigh yet, but close enough. Which meant she had slept in. "Oh, mouse dung," she muttered as she picked up a nice, fat koi from the pile and started to move off towards one of the not sunny spots of the camp when she noticed Fallentree.
The she-cat took a moment to think about what she could do before cautiously moving towards the elder. She dropped her koi in front of him before sitting down on the other side of the fish. "Good morning, Fallentree," she purred, her eyes seeming to hold a warmth to them as she greeted the older tom. Though usually, she had trouble speaking with toms but, in her mind, Fallentree was not really a tom anymore. He was simply an elder, someone she can be comfortable talking to. She liked thinking that way, it helped to keep her nerves calm. "I didn't know if you'd had eaten yet, so I brought you some fresh kill." Her voice, as usual, was quiet, soft, just barely louder than a whisper.
